Eva Longoria Parker: Celebrity 'Philanthropist of the Year'

Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria Parker is popping up in the news these day more for her work off-screen than on.

Yesterday, you read that she will be judging the $5 million "Chase Community Giving: You Decide What Matters" contest as a member of the Chase Community Giving Advisory Board. What you didn't read is that Longoria Parker was also named Philanthropist of the Year on Monday by The Hollywood Reporter for her work in founding Eva's Heroes, a nonprofit in her hometown of San Antonio, T.X., which provides an after-school program for individuals with developmental disabilities.

But her work does not end there.

Longoria Parker also serves as a national spokesperson for Padres Contra El Cancer (Parents Against Cancer), a nonprofit committed to improving the lives of Latino children with cancer and their families, and, in collaboration with nonprofit producer Shine Global, serves as executive producer of "The Harvest", a documentary focusing on the plight of the 500,000 child farm workers in America.

 Describing her efforts as Herculean, Eric Mika, publisher of the Hollywood Reporter, says he's greatly impressed: "I've never met a more conscientious and socially aware young, energetic talent...She pours her free time and energy into raising millions of dollars for charitable missions that make a difference in the Latino community and other humanitarian organizations

 In order to pay up on a promise, actress Eva Longoria Parker took to the stripper's pole to pole dance on the George Lopez show Monday night. Eva explained on the show, "Carmen Electra was a friend of mine and she has these stripper poles that she sells," Eva said. "She sent me one for Valentine's Day and she's like 'Have fun!' So I set it up myself...to do a sexy dance for Valentine's," Longoria said on the show. Eva, who recently posed in a sexy photoshoot with husband Tony Parker, had told George Lopez that if his show ever got picked up (it has on TBS) that she would take to the pole for the crowd. While Eva keeps in shape by working out with her personal trainer in her gym, other celebs actually rely on the pole to keep them fit. Celebrities like above-mentioned Carmen Electra, Kendra Wilkinson and Hef's girlfriend twins Kristina and Karissa Shannon are all fans of the pole dance for a workout.
